England’s 2021 Rugby League World Cup Trophy – missing cockerel

The company was commissioned by the tournament organisers to recreate the cockerel that used to sit on top of this impressive replica trophy. The original trophy was commissioned by French Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII president Paul Barrière to be used at the inaugural Rugby League World Cup in 1954. It was stolen whilst on display at a Bradford hotel during the competition in 1970…

The video below, gives an insight into how we designed and re-made the cockerel.

As an interesting aside, it would have been Tony Fattorini, for Fattorini & Sons Bradford, who would have been principally involved with the creation of many of the sports cups of the day such as the Rugby League Challenge cup and the FA cup. He was part of the breakaway from Rugby Union in the late 1800’s, which resulted in the birth of Rugby League. He was also an avid promoter of chess competitions, athletics and was an Olympic timekeeper.

He must have been quite a character to have been featured in a cartoon strip for the News of the World:
