Student Medal for the World Indoor Athletics Championships – Birmingham

The Local Organisation Committee of the International Association of Athletics Federations [IAAF] challenged the students of Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery to come up with a design for the winners medals. We had the pleasure of being invited to be part of the judging panel and to assist in the manufacture of these medals.

The successful design was by Menna Jones, a second year silversmith and jewellery student at the School. The medal was designed specifically to feature aspects of the city’s distinctive landmarks; principally Birmingham’s New Library, the Selfridges building and the historic Town Hall.

The result is a very distinctive medal which does the city proud and offers the winners a wonderful and personal memento of their brief time there.
